Steven Chesser

Steven B. Chesser is the office and external affairs manager of the Marine Exchange of Southern California, a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and efficient flow of maritime commerce throughout the region. Before joining the Marine Exchange, Chesser served as the Senior Manager, Community Relations, for The Boeing Company in Long Beach from 1997 to 2009.

In that capacity, Chesser coordinated Boeing contributions to Long Beach area non-profit organizations and educational institutions which averaged more than $1 million per year. He also was Boeing’s Subject Matter Expert for Education, and developed and articulated Boeing’s strategy for funding public education in the State of California.

He has been asked to address numerous legislative and educational forums on the role of the private sector in public education. Prior to joining The Boeing Company, Chesser served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, where he worked in a number of public affairs assignments including the Pentagon, battleship USS NEW JERSEY and the Naval Surface Group in Long Beach.

He has a BA in Journalism from the University of South Carolina and an MA in Communication from the University of Oklahoma. He also completed two semesters of study towards an Ed.D from California State University Long Beach.

His public service includes a 2004 appointment by Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe to the Developmental Disabilities Area Board 10. Area Boards were created to protect and advocate for the civil, legal, and service rights of persons with developmental disabilities, and to ensure that the support and services they receive are of the highest possible quality. Supervisor Knabe reappointed him to a second three year term in 2008.
