Nick Sramek

Nick Sramek is President of the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners, the five-member governing board of the Port of Long Beach, California. Mayor Bob Foster appointed him to a six-year term in July 2007. Mr. Sramek was re-elected to a one-year term as President by his colleagues on the Board in June 2010. He previously served a year as Vice President.

Mr. Sramek served on the City of Long Beach Planning Commission for seven years prior to his Harbor Commission appointment. He is a senior project leader in system engineering for The Aerospace Corporation in El Segundo, where he has worked for 25 years, primarily on military satellite systems. He is a senior member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, where he chairs the Computer Systems Technical Committee. Mr. Sramek also is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.

For many years, Mr. Sramek has been active in community affairs citywide, focusing on efforts to improve West Long Beach neighborhoods. He is former president of the West Long Beach Neighborhood Association, founder of the West Long Beach Business Association and serves on the board of the Westside Neighborhood Clinic, a provider of free and low-cost medical care.

Mr. Sramek also has served as a member of the Long Beach Police Chief’s advisory group on Neighborhood Watch, as an executive board member of the Honorary Police Officers Association of Long Beach and as a trustee for the Long Beach Police Officers Widows and Orphans Memorial Trust Fund.

Mr. Sramek graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering from California State University, Long Beach. In 2010, CSULB's School of Engineering named him its "Distinguished Alumnus," and Sramek delivered the school's commencement speech. With the exception of three years of service in the U.S. Army, he has lived his entire life in the same West Long Beach neighborhood.

His wife, Patti Sramek, formerly served as field representative for then-City Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga; daughter Bridget Sramek is chief of staff for Long Beach City Councilman Patrick O’Donnell; and son Dave Sramek is a product manager and sales representative for an electrical, electronic and data-communications product firm.

As Harbor Commissioner, Mr. Sramek represents the Port on the Intermodal Container Transfer Facility Joint Powers Authority governing board and on the I-710 Executive Committee as an alternate on the Alameda Corridor Transportation Authority’s governing board.
