Michael Anastasi

Mike is the Vice President, Executive Editor for Los Angeles News Group (LANG). Formerly of the Los Angeles Daily News, he has been a managing editor of The Salt Lake Tribune since 2004. The Tribune, which like LANG is affiliated with MediaNews Group and Digital First Media, was one of the first newsrooms to adopt an integrated digital/print structure and is among the nation’s leaders for overall audience growth. Before moving to Salt Lake City, Anastasi had worked entirely in California, including 11 years in Los Angeles as a sports editor for LANG and the Los Angeles Daily News. He also was a reporter and editor in Northern California.

Anastasi, 46, studied International Relations at the University of California, Davis, and also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from California State University, Long Beach. He has taught numerous professional seminars. Michael has been active in numerous professional organizations including serving as the President of the Associated Press Sports Editors where his contributions included the creation of the APSE Diversity Management program, a program promoting and developing female and minority professionals for management positions within the news industry, and the launching of the University Outreach Initiative.

Michael’s professional and industry contributions also include serving in various capacities with the Association for Women in Sports Media; Associated Press Managing Editors; National Association of Hispanic Journalists; Society of Professional Journalists; and the Department of Journalism Advisory Council, California State University, Long Beach. As a sports journalist, Anastasi received 28 Top 10 national section, website and writing awards from APSE. He has received a number of other awards from national, regional and local journalism organizations, including the California Newspaper Publishers Association and the Los Angeles Press Club.
