Jon Slangerup

Jon W. Slangerup was named the Port of Long Beach's Chief Executive in June 2014 by the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners.

As the top executive, Mr. Slangerup heads one of the world's premier seaports, a primary gateway for trans-Pacific trade and a trailblazer in innovative goods movement, safety and environmental stewardship. A major economic engine for the region, the Port handles trade valued at more than $180 billion each year and supports hundreds of thousands of Southern California jobs. As the chief executive, he leads the Port's Harbor Department staff of 490 people, with an annual budget of nearly $900 million.

Mr. Slangerup comes to the Port with 34 years of corporate leadership experience and for the past 20 years has served as a president, CEO and/or director of both public and private companies. With expertise in aviation, logistics and clean technologies, Mr. Slangerup has built global businesses ranging from technology startups to a billion-dollar subsidiary of FedEx.

Mr. Slangerup's career began in military and commercial aviation, leading to a distinguished 20-year career with FedEx, where he advanced through the ranks to become the President of FedEx Canada. During his eight-year assignment in Toronto, Mr. Slangerup led the transformation of FedEx Canada from a small regional domestic courier operation into Canada's leading international express logistics company.

Since FedEx, Mr. Slangerup has served as a CEO, board director and/or investor of technology companies focused on bringing leading-edge products to markets in the fields of industrial software, clean energy technology and marine ballast water treatment. He has secured $200 million in equity and debt capital, created jobs for more than 6,000 people, provided products and services to customers in 100 countries, and led the successful acquisition and integration of seven companies.

Prior to joining the Port, Mr. Slangerup served on the Executive Advisory Board of New York-based Moelis Capital Partners where he consulted on mergers and acquisitions in the transportation and energy industries. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Mxi Technologies, a leading aviation maintenance management software company, and on the Board of Trustees of his alma mater, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Mr. Slangerup graduated cum laude from Embry-Riddle with a bachelor's degree in Aeronautics. He also holds a master's degree in Business Administration from Kennedy-Western University and is a certified Board Leadership Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Throughout his career, Mr. Slangerup has delivered shareholder value by transforming underperforming companies into market winners through effective leadership, sustainable growth strategies and disciplined business practices.

Mr. Slangerup is a native of California who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and currently resides in the greater Los Angeles area.
