Gainer Pillsbury

Dr. Pillsbury is a Board Certified Ob/Gyn.  He is a native of Long Beach, CA and graduated from Los Cerritos Elementary School, George Washington Jr. High School, Poly High School, Stanford University and Stanford Medical School. He interned at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, and after a tour of duty as a medical officer in the Navy, completed a residency in Ob/Gyn at Stanford. He joined his father in private practice in Long Beach and has been on the active medical staff of Long Beach Memorial since 1964. In addition to patient care, he has been active in teaching and is a Clinical Professor of Ob/Gyn at UCI. He has been the president of several professional organizations including the Stanford Medical Alumni Association, the Long Beach Surgical Society and the Pacific Coast Ob/Gyn Society.  He has assumed hospital leadership roles as Chief of Staff of Women’s Hospital and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hospital and of Memorial Health Services and the MemorialCare Physician Society. In 1996, he took the position of Medical Director at Long Beach Memorial and has been the Chief Medical Officer since 2001. He was a hospital surveyor for the CMA and the Joint Commission for 6 years and has been the Chair of the Physician’s Advisory Committee for HASC and of the California Hospital Quality Committee. He currently is a member of the Center for Healthcare Medical Executives sponsored by the California Hospital Association.
