Daniel Guerrero previously served on the City Council from 2004-2008. During his tenure, Daniel was appointed by his colleagues to serve as the Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and twice as the Mayor Pro Tem. Mayor Guerrero first took office as Mayor in November 2010. He was re-elected to his second term in November 2012. A native of San Marcos, Mayor Daniel Guerrero is a graduate of San Marcos High School and has an undergraduate degree in Communication from Texas State University. He earned a masters degree in Organizational Leadership and Ethics from St. Edward's University and multiple certifications from Austin Community College. In addition to his service to the City Council, Guerrero has served as the chairperson for the San Marcos/Hays County EMS Board, Hays Central Appraisal District Board, Citizens Utility Advisory Board, City Council Finance/Audit Committee and the Making the Grade San Marcos CISD Marketing Committee. Mayor Guerrero also serves as a member of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), Capital Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG), Hays County Public Utility Authority, Core Four Committee, Comprehensive Master Plan Steering Committee, San Marcos Economic Development Council and the Greater San Marcos Partnership. Mayor Guerrero is also the past chairperson for the San Marcos Census Complete County Committee, past secretary for the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce Education Committee and past secretary for the Minority Tourism Development Board. Beyond the Mayor’s leadership and civic activities, Mayor Guerrero has previously served as the Executive Director for the San Marcos Education Foundation and now serves as a Business Development Consultant with a focus on fundraising for Central Texas public school districts and public infrastructure improvements in Travis and Williamson Counties. Mayor Guerrero is a graduate of Leadership San Marcos, San Marcos Citizen’s Fire Academy and Citizen’s Police Academy. He is a member of the Texas State Alumni Association, St. Edward’s University Alumni Association, and an active volunteer for Austin Community College and San Marcos CISD. Mayor Guerrero is an avid sports fan and live music enthusiast. He enjoys following San Antonio Spurs basketball and Dallas Cowboys football, is a regular at live music venues to watch his favorite band, Blue October, and enjoys spending time with his three rescued dogs (Summer, Millie and Pepper).
