Laura Doud

Laura Doud is the Long Beach City Auditor. Born and raised in Long Beach, Laura naturally has a great love for this City.  She attended local public schools and graduated from California State University, Long Beach with an accounting degree.  After becoming a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner, she also earned a Law Degree.

First elected in 2006, and recently re-elected for a second four-year term, Laura continues to reenergize this vital City Department. The City Auditor is the “watchdog” of the City’s Treasury, the person who assures the citizens that their City is running efficiently and effectively.  The City Auditor is also the “check and balance” of City government.

With Laura’s leadership in her first term, the Office of the City Auditor underwent a peer review for the first time in its history. Passing the peer review laid the foundation for producing significant audits for the City, two of which earned awards from the Association of Local Government Auditors.

After her 2007 review of oil extraction fees, Laura recommended an update of oil production tax rates resulting in a ballot measure that earned unprecedented voter approval and now adds approximately $3.5 million for public safety annually. In addition, Laura revitalized the City Auditor’s Fraud Hotline and created an information-packed website, www.CityAuditorLauraDoud.com which has won two national awards for excellence.

Laura is a member of the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center/ Miller Children’s Hospital Finance Committee and she is on the Advisory Board of the Long Beach Playhouse.  In addition to her public service, she is an active member of her church and she lives in Long Beach with her husband, Jim, and their young daughter, Kelly.
