As General Manager of the Press-Telegram, Joe Brenneman leads the day-to-day business and editorial operations of the predominant source of news and information for Long Beach and the surrounding area. In addition to overseeing the newspaper’s print editions, he is also in charge of the paper’s website, presstelegram.com, as well as multiple targeted print, online and direct-mail products. Beyond that, Brenneman serves as General Manager of Impacto USA, the nation’s largest home-delivered Spanish-language newspaper and website. Importantly, he is also responsible for the advertising sales efforts of three of the nine daily newspapers in the Los Angeles Newspaper Group (LANG) including the Press-Telegram, Los Angeles Daily News and the Torrance Daily Breeze.
Brenneman has more than 20 years of sales, sales management and general management experience, 16 of which have been in the newspaper and publishing industry, holding key positions with multiple media companies including Freedom Communications, Knight Ridder, Disney and ABC/ Capital Cities. Before joining LANG in November 2008, Brenneman was Vice President of Advertising Sales for Orange County Register Communications, publisher of the Orange County Register, 25 community weeklies, multiple online products, Spanish-language weekly newspaper Excelsior and numerous specialty magazines. Prior to that, Brenneman was Advertising Director at the Lexington Herald-Leader in Lexington, Kentucky, and held senior management roles at the Lee’s Summit Journal and The Kansas City Star.
A native of Kansas City, Joe has always held a strong interest in journalism, marketing and advertising. He holds a Journalism degree as well as an MBA in Marketing, both from the University of Kansas. He has served on numerous boards of charitable, non-profit, civic and trade organizations.
Joe and his wife Beth have four children: Cory (17), Nicholas (14), Kyle (12) and Derek (7). They spend much of their time actively involved with their kids in school, church and sports activities.
